Return a damaged tool and keep it unavailable

Return a damaged tool and keep it unavailable.

For operators

Practise with these example records. At work, check the tool and the people in front of you before you confirm.

Read these instructions on any device. Watch or practise a chapter on a desktop or laptop, with a desktop or mobile application layout. Demonstrations use sample data and simulated scanners.

Return a damaged tool and keep it unavailable

  1. Issue, return and restow

    Issue, return and restow.

Open issue, return and restow from the menu.

  2. Choose your station

    Choose your station.

Choose the station you are using. Check that your own name is shown. Ask an owner if the station is missing.

  3. Scan TOOL-001

    Scan TOOL-001.

Scan the tool in front of you. This opens its record. You still need to confirm the handover.

  4. Choose who is taking the tool

Choose who is taking the tool.

Choose the person receiving the tool. This does not change who is signed in.

  5. Choose the approved task

    Choose the approved task.

Choose the job the tool will be used for. The check will tell you whether it is suitable and its checks stay valid until you finish.

  6. Enter how long you need it

Enter how long you need it.

Enter the number of minutes you expect to use the tool. Its required checks must stay valid for that whole time.

  7. Enter when it will be back

Enter when it will be back.

Enter the number of minutes until the tool should be returned. A later return time does not let you use it for longer.

  8. Check this handover

    Check this handover.

Run current checks and read the decision before moving the tool. A permitted check is not a recorded handover.

  9. Confirm the physical handover

    Confirm the physical handover.

Check the tool, borrower and task. Confirm only when you are physically handing over this tool.

  10. Record the handover once

    Record the handover once.

Press once and wait for the confirmed result. Scanning the tool alone does not record who has it.

  11. Open the return

    Open the return.

Record the tool that has actually come back. Record its return even if it is late or damaged.

  12. Choose the actual return position

    Choose the actual return position.

Choose the return review location where you have actually received the tool.

  13. Record the observed damage

    Record the observed damage.

Choose Damaged when damage is observed. An honest return must not make a damaged tool ready.

  14. Record who returned it

    Record who returned it.

Say who brought the tool back and what happened. Keep the note clear and factual.

  15. Confirm physical receipt

    Confirm physical receipt.

Confirm only after you have physically received the tool at the selected review position.

  16. Record the return once

    Record the return once.

Wait for the return to be confirmed. Leave the tool in the review location for a supervisor to check before it goes back into use.

  17. Recheck the damaged tool

    Recheck the damaged tool.

The tool is now physically returned. Check why it remains unavailable instead of trying to bypass its review.

  18. Read why the damaged tool is blocked

Read why the damaged tool is blocked.

The damaged tool has been returned, but cannot be issued. Leave it for a supervisor to review.
