Follow the reviewed approval routing

See a large order wait for a second supervisor and a submitter's own one-off order go to someone else.

For supervisors

Sarah Hughes is signed in with only the Supervisor role and a recent security check. The reviewed October purchasing terms send Calder orders over £500 to two supervisors, and one-off purchases to a supervisor other than the person who submitted them.

Follow the reviewed approval routing

  1. Open approvals

    Open approvals.

Approvals lists the current revisions waiting for a supervisor. Open the submitted draft to review its exact quantities and delivery details.

  2. Open the £540 calibration order

    Open the £540 calibration order.

Sam has submitted Draft 4: twelve hours of calibration from Calder Fixings, £540.00 in total. The reviewed rule says this revision needs two different supervisors.

  3. Read the approval rule

    Read the approval rule.

Open the recorded rule check. It names the rule that applied, Calder orders over £500 need two supervisors, and the facts it used: the supplier, the currency and the order total.

  4. Give the first approval

    Give the first approval.

Approve revision 1. Your approval is recorded with a recent identity check, but the order is not approved yet: it waits for a second supervisor and has no order reference.

  5. Try to approve it again

    Try to approve it again.

Approving again is refused. The same person cannot count as both supervisors, so ask another supervisor to review the order.

  6. Return to approvals

    Return to approvals.

Approvals still lists the calibration order until a second supervisor approves it. Next, open the one-off order you submitted yourself.

  7. Open your own one-off order

    Open your own one-off order.

Draft 5 is for four M10 lifting eye bolts, a one-off purchase. You prepared and submitted it, and the reviewed rule says one-off purchases are approved by someone other than the submitter.

  8. Check you cannot approve it

    Check you cannot approve it.

Your approval is refused because you submitted this order. Ask another supervisor to approve it; nothing is ordered until they do.

Approval rules route an order; they never approve it. Every approval is a supervisor's decision with a recent identity check, and the order gets its reference only when the last required approval is recorded.
