Measure and check the printed values

Use example measurements, check both directions and practise comparing the complete printed values.

For operators

Use example measurements, check both directions and practise comparing the complete printed values.

Read these instructions on any device. Watch or practise a chapter on a desktop or laptop, with a desktop or mobile application layout. Demonstrations use sample data and simulated scanners.

Measure and check the printed values

  1. Choose the example printer resolution

    Choose the example printer resolution.

Use the resolution of the printer for a real check. This example uses 203 DPI. If you do not know, keep the unknown option.

  2. Prepare the known test sheet

    Prepare the known test sheet.

The original PDF is checked and its preview is rendered from the same bytes. Downloading a sheet does not mean a label has printed.

  3. Record the example print observation

    Record the example print observation.

For practice, record that our example label is available. In a real check, choose this only after you have the paper label.

  4. Confirm the printed test-sheet code

    Confirm the printed test-sheet code.

Check the code and version printed on the sheet. All the test sheets share the same barcode values, so a matching scan cannot identify the sheet.

  5. Record the example width measurement

    Record the example width measurement.

Enter 50.05 millimetres for this practice example. On a real label, measure between the tick centres on paper, not on the screen.

  6. Record the example height measurement

    Record the example height measurement.

The two directions are checked separately. These example values are within the chosen tolerance; this does not qualify a physical printer.

  7. Start the scanner field

    Start the scanner field.

The scan box is ready. Scans go only to the focused box. The practice inputs here are simulated.

  8. Scan the complete example value

    Scan the complete example value.

Every character matches the selected expected value, including the zeroes. A text match alone does not prove print quality or optical scanning.

  9. Stop scanner capture

    Stop scanner capture.

The received values stay available for review. Stop capture before using other controls.

  10. Choose the QR test value

    Choose the QR test value.

Choose the value of the code you are testing. A QR code needs a scanner that can read it; manual text entry only checks equality.

  11. Start the scanner field

    Start the scanner field.

The scan box is ready. Scans go only to the focused box. The practice inputs here are simulated.

  12. Enter the known QR test value

Enter the known QR test value.

The selected QR value matches exactly. This practice input does not test a real QR scanner.

  13. Stop scanner capture

    Stop scanner capture.

The received values stay available for review. Stop capture before using other controls.

  14. Review the report

    Review the report.

Review the evidence before sharing it. By default, device names, notes and received text are excluded.

  15. Download the reviewed JSON report

    Download the reviewed JSON report.

The real exporter offers the reviewed report for download. Keep it with your setup evidence; the browser does not confirm where you saved it.
