Create, paste and save your first table
Create a typed customer/product table, review the complete paste and save its first version.
For owners
Use an authorised SmartFACT account and synthetic practice data. This desktop guide follows the complimentary invited pilot. Background connections and Google Sheets synchronisation are outside its scope.
Read these instructions on any device. Watch or practise a chapter on a desktop or laptop, with a desktop or mobile application layout. Demonstrations use sample data and simulated scanners.
Create, paste and save your first table
- Open reference tables
Open reference tables.
An owner creates tables. Choose the columns and matching keys before creation because their structure is fixed afterwards.
- Name the table
Name the table.
Use a clear name. The starting schema separates the kit code from the customer code printed on a label.
- Create the empty table
Create the empty table.
The new table has no saved rows yet. Text preserves exact identifiers, including leading zeroes.
- Choose spreadsheet paste
Choose spreadsheet paste.
Paste tab-separated spreadsheet cells with the header. Merge keeps other rows; replace removes rows absent from the new data.
- Paste the reviewed example
Paste the reviewed example.
These two rows are synthetic. Keep row_id unique, and keep customer_code plus product_code unique together.
- Validate and review the paste
Validate and review the paste.
Review checks the entire proposed table. Inspect the added rows before saving. A preview has not saved or activated anything.
- Record a useful reason
Record a useful reason.
Record why this version is needed so another maintainer can understand its history.
- Confirm the review
Confirm the review.
Only confirm after checking the proposed rows and differences. Removed rows need a separate acknowledgement.
- Save version one
Save version one.
Version one is retained. Each receiving product still reviews and accepts the data separately. Saving a table does not create or deliver a feed.
Keep receiving-product review and activation separate from saving or exporting reference data.
