Check an exact lookup

Use text matching and inspect the accepted revision without changing data.

For viewers

Use an authorised SmartFACT account and synthetic practice data. This desktop guide follows the complimentary invited pilot. Background connections and Google Sheets synchronisation are outside its scope.

Read these instructions on any device. Watch or practise a chapter on a desktop or laptop, with a desktop or mobile application layout. Demonstrations use sample data and simulated scanners.

Check an exact lookup

  1. Open the query screen

    Open the query screen.

A viewer can run read-only queries. A result selects complete sources, not just the matching row.

  2. Add an exact match

    Add an exact match.

Data-row filters must match the same row. Use the exact field name and the appropriate value type.

  3. Choose the customer code field

    Choose the customer code field.

Field names, case and spaces matter. This column stores the code printed for the customer.

  4. Enter the exact text code

    Enter the exact text code.

The value remains text. Leading zeroes are part of the identifier.

  5. Run the lookup

    Run the lookup.

Check the returned revision and receipt time. Receiving applications decide whether the age of external data is acceptable.

  6. Try a different exact code

    Try a different exact code.

Lower-case text is a different code. This deliberately shows a valid query with no match.

  7. Check the no-match result

    Check the no-match result.

A valid no-match result is different from invalid or duplicate data. Check the source, field name and value rather than assuming a default.
