This lesson uses made-up values. BarcodeBench checks the text received, not the physical print quality, ownership or correctness of a shipment.

## Use a ScannerBench capture and keep its source

1. **Start a barcode check**

   Start a barcode check.

Start a temporary session. Values stay on this device and are not sent for a remote lookup.

2. **Open a prepared ScannerBench report**

   Open a prepared ScannerBench report.

This practice button selects a made-up report through the real file input. In the product, choose your full ScannerBench JSON report.

3. **Select the complete pasted capture**

   Select the complete pasted capture.

Choose only the complete capture needed for this check. Its recorded source remains visible.

4. **Add the chosen capture unchanged**

   Add the chosen capture unchanged.

The imported capture is read-only. Device details, expected values and scanner events are not imported.

5. **Choose how to read the value**

Choose how to read the value.

Move to the format choice before asking BarcodeBench to explain the value.

6. **Review the format choices**

   Review the format choices.

Without your format choice, BarcodeBench offers possible formats. It does not guess the meaning for you.

7. **Return to the format choice**

   Return to the format choice.

Choose how this known practice capture should be read, then check it again.

8. **Choose GS1 data in brackets**

   Choose GS1 data in brackets.

Choose the format that matches the data you are checking. BarcodeBench keeps the original value.

9. **Read the captured item and lot**

Read the captured item and lot.

Read the preserved capture. PRIVATE is a synthetic lot name in this practice report.

10. **Return to the exact value**

   Return to the exact value.

Go back to the input. The previous result is not an instruction to repair the physical label without checking its source.

11. **Make an editable copy**

   Make an editable copy.

Make a separate copy if you need to edit. The original capture remains unchanged, and the copy is marked as typed or scanned.
